About the Monastery

St. Sabbas Orthodox Monastery, located in Harper Woods, Michigan, is a men's monastery following the patristic Julian calendar.  The monastery was founded in 1999 as a center for liturgical arts in conjunction with traditional monastic standards.

The monastery is presently situated on approximately six acres which includes the Monastery Katholicon, the library (6,000 books), the Abbots quarters, the Metropolitans Archpastoral apartment, the trapeza, gift shop, candle shop, and bakery.  The monastery has also currently set aside space for hospice for elderly and ailing Orthodox  who desire personalized homecare in the final stages of their lives.  Ground will soon be broken for the artisans studios.
