The monastery hosts several retreats throughout the year, as well as individual and small group retreats. Only female guests can be accomodated overnight. Visitors should call ahead.

About the Monastery

SS Mary and Martha is an Orthodox Christian women's monastic community founded in 1989 under the auspicies of His Eminence, Archbishop Dmitri, Bishop of Dallas and the South. The monastery is located on a forty-two acre parcel of land near Wagener, South Carolina, 30 miles southwest of Columbia.

Current facilites are in a doublewide, prefab home which will eventually become a guesthouse and retreat center. A concrete block building for making candles in is under construction. Future plans include a large chapel, two workrooms, kitchen, living/dining room, eight cells (bedrooms) and two office/workrooms/cells. The exterior will be red brick (common to the area), white trim, and a metal roof. There are two monastics in residence.
