DIRECTIONS: On U.S. Route 422, outside of Hiram, Ohio, turn west on Orchard Rapids Road (there will be a red brick house with pillars on the corner). Orchard Rapids Road turns to Pope Road. At the end of the road, turn left, then a right onto Washburn. Then, make a right Allyn Road. The Monastery will be on the left.
St John the Theologian Monastery
was founded on 10 June, 1981. Facilities include the main residence with attached chapel, a barn, a guest house, cemetery chapel and Shrine to St. Herman.
The monastics sell greeting cards, charcoal, essential oils, gems and sacramental wine to help meet expenses. On Sundays throughout the year, public programs on various Orthodox subjects are sponsored by members of the monastic community. Retreats are also held for groups and individuals from the Greater Cleveland area. A bookstore sells books, tapes and cds, icons, gold and silver crosses made on the premises, prayer ropes, wood carvings and incense from Mount Athos. Beeswax candles are made by the brothers and sold to parishes as well. There are two monastics in residence.
