General Information About the Orthodox Monasteries List

Home |About |NEW |Tidings |Listings by: State/Jurisdiction |Related

This information is presented to create more awareness of the treasury of Orthodox Monasticism in North America. It is my firm hope that this effort might help in some small way in encouraging monastic vocations, or at the very least, prayers and support for these "spiritual fortresses."

I pray that this site can be a starting point, both for those who want to know more about monasticism, and those who want to know more about the Orthodox Church. Visiting a monastery is like taking a "Berlitz" total immersion course in Orthodox spirituality.

This list can be used to find out what monasteries may be nearby, or to find out more about Orthodox monasteries in general. It gives basic information about each monastery, such as products they may produce and whether or not they are cloistered or allow retreats.

Many monasteries listed have overnight guest facilities or welcome visitors. Others will be happy to provide lecturers/speakers to nearby groups interested in more information.

This is a strictly volunteer effort on my part. There is no profit for myself or cost to the monasteries listed. Hosting services have been donated by the kind people at The Tinker's Domain remote link

Information is presently only provided for those monasteries from whom I have obtained information and permission, or was readily available on the net already. Information was drawn from the OCA Directory remote link. I hope to add more monasteries and more information/graphics as time, and resources permit. If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to see a monastery added to this list, please feel free to contact me (mblaydoe@mac.com mail to).

Many graphic images I use were obtained from St Isaac of Syria Skete remote link.
