The guesthouse contains a lounge and rooms for retreatants. Retreats are private and informal; meals are taken with the monks; guests attend the services and spend time in reading, prayer, and relaxation as well as working with the community.
Advance reservations are necessary, and stays are limited to two or three days because of the many people who wish to visit.
New Skete is a religious community of men and women, consisting of three separate facilities for monks, nuns, and married couples. In 1983 a group of three married couples and two widows formed the Companions of New Skete. Residing in Emmaus House on the New Skete Monastery grounds, they follow a religious rule of life, owning nothing as individuals, eating and working in common, and worshipping with the monks and nuns.
The companions support themselves by sewing, weaving, working with the monks, making bread and jams. Some hold outside jobs. There are currently 10 companions in residence.
