Monastery Responds to Hayman Fire

Protection of the Holy Virgin Orthodox Monastery and Local Parishes Minister to the Displaced in Colorado

Progress is being made with defining a pan-Orthodox response to the Haymanfire involving the persons displaced from the monastery, the community, and training provided by International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC). According to Robert Pianka of the IOCC: "Using the play kit designed by Don and Barbara Weaver--experts in the spiritual and emotional care of children who have experienced disaster situations--we want to organize and train a qualified Orthodox team drawn from the monastery and local churches to visit children displaced by the fire. The plan is to engage them in activities that help them deal with the displacement, the experiences they are now undergoing, and those that await them. This team will be supported by an emergency network mobilized in the parishes by the Rocky Mountain Orthodox Christian Charities and Missions (RMOCCM)."
